How does the permit process work? How much does it cost?
There are just a few steps to obtaining a permit for your HVAC project.
At Advanced Performance Heating & Air Conditioning we will obtain the permit and schedule the third party verification. The price of the permit and third party verification is passed along to the customer. There will be no mark up on the cost of the permit or third party verification. We do charge for the time it takes to obtain the permit. Typically this process cost $400-$500.
- Register your project with CalCerts. (CalCerts is responsible for tracking third party performance verification)
- Obtain a permit from the department of building and safety.
- Perform the scope of work.
- Hire a third party company to pressure test the ductwork and check the refrigerant charge on the air conditioning unit. Once the job is verified a certificate will be provided.
- Schedule Final inspection with building and safety.
What is fan on and fan auto?
Fan On: Your indoor fan will run continuous (regardless if there is a call for heat or cool).
Fan Auto: The fan will only run when the unit is calling for heat or cool.
What is my outdoor air conditioning unit called?
The outdoor unit is called a condensing unit or a condenser.
The main component in a condensing unit is called the compressor.
How can I improve the efficiency of my existing air conditioning unit?
Performing routine maintenance will ensure that your system is running at maximum efficiency. A unit with a dirty air filter or condenser coil can reduce the efficiency by 50%. It is also crucial to maintain normal refrigerant pressures which will prolong the life of your system.
How much does it cost to add or replace a heating and air conditioning system?
Each home is different and there are many variables to consider. Each home has to be individually evaluated in order to give a firm price. Efficiency and your choice of HVAC manufacturer will also dictate the final price.
Which HVAC Manufacturer should I choose?
I’ve installed or serviced almost every known brand. For the most part all brands are very similar. There are a few brands that have repeat issues which I like to stay away from. I prefer to sell equipment with local support and easy warranty procedures. If something is to go wrong with a newer system, it’s very important to get the problem solved as quickly as possible.
As far as consumer reports go, you must be very careful when reading these reviews. Many of these negative review come from consumers who had their systems poorly designed or installed.
Where is my air filter?
Your air filter is usually located in one of three places;
- In a filter grill either on the side of a wall or on the ceiling.
- Inside the bottom section of the furnace or fan coil.
- In a filter rack which is typically mounted to the bottom side of the furnace or fan coil.
Where is my furnace?
Typically your furnace will be located in the following areas;
- Indoor / outdoor closet
What is the difference between a return and a supply?
Return: This is typically the largest grill in your home and there may be more than one. The return draws air back to the system.
Supply register: There are several supply registers throughout your home which provide the air to condition the space
Why do you ask where my heater is when I call you for a no cooling?
We may need to inspect the fan in the furnace which moves air throughout your home in both the heat and cool modes.
